Winter Improvement Plan
This winter we have set out an ambitious improvement plan, to further invest and enhance the links, in our pursuit of perfecting the golfing experience here at Dunstanburgh.
Any questions on the Improvement plan should be directed to Golf Course Manager - Stuart Imeson - Email form below.
Work will commence in October
After the storm last year and the disruption it caused, we have decided to release our winter porgramme in 3 phases.
Phase 1 will commence in October and should take 4-6 weeks to complete.
Further phases will be annouced and published at a later date.
Improvements Phase 1
Teeing Area’s
The 4th Tee will be relevelled and relaid. The teeing area itself will be larger by 30/40% increasing this will also give a good variation in length to the hole.
Bunkers
Our bunker renovation plan is ambitous to say the very least, we aim to renovate around 20 bunkers this winter. Pahse 1 of our bunker programme is below. All of our bunkers are traditionally revetted however this season some of our fairway bunkers will take a more natural look.
2nd Fairway bunker to be filled in
2nd Greenside right to be rebuild
3rd Greenside both rebuilt and drainage replaced.
5th Greenside both rebuilt
Depending on weather conditions we anticapte the first pahse of works to be completed by the end of November.
Maintenance
Greens Maintenance
Over the next 4-6 weeks Our Greens will be recieving weekly areation to help improve the grass sward and its thickness coming into the winter months. During the course of this season extreme weather conditions have forced the Greenstaff into Watering & Feeding considerably more than normal, to combat any production of organic matter in the the soil profile regular Aeration & Top dressings will be carried out this Autumn. We look to Apply roughly 50/60 tonnes of sand in the next 4-6 weeks.
Tees Maintenance
This year our tees have struggled with heat/drought stress, not only this the extreme amounts of play have casued some of our tees to loose a little grass coverage. There are minor works needing to be carried out, we will be aerating and overseeding all tees during the course of the next 2 weeks. Mats will be in play during the course of the work, please use these mats and help the green staff get the tees back to their best.
Green Surrounds & Fairway Maintenance
This season we have had one of our most extreme periods of prolonged drought and heat, obvouisly our Greens Surrounds & Fairways have signs of stress, both the Green Surrounds & Fairways programme is going to be aggressive this autumn and will look unsightly to begin with.
During the course of this Autumn we will be scarifying and overseeding in the coming days, then once the surfaces have settled and signs of improvement have been made we will start the process of Aeration.
Alot of roping off areas will commence at the start of October please try and stick to the designated Paths, the amount of wear will determine how much seed germinates and survives.
Rough Management
A contractor is due onsite the week commencing 19th of September to Cut and Collect some selected rough area throughout the Golf Course. This is in a bid to enchance all of our rough area’s, the process of thining out the rough not only helps Golfers, it promotes finer grasses a more positive envrioment for wild flora and fauna which is part of our sustainable management goals throughtout the next few season.
Thanks
